Itinerary and highlights
Located near the village of Andasibe, around 140 km east of Antananarivo, the Analamazaotra Special Reserve (also known as Périnet) is one of Madagascar’s most accessible and popular natural sites. This biodiversity hotspot is home to the indri, the largest of all lemurs, renowned for its powerful, haunting calls that echo through the forest. Other iconic species such as the diademed sifaka can also be seen here, along with a rich variety of birds, reptiles, and endemic plants. Well-maintained trails allow for hikes suitable for all fitness levels, accompanied by Professional local guides.
The Vakona Private Reserve offers an immersive experience with Madagascar’s wildlife, particularly on its famous Lemur Island, where visitors can get up close to sifakas, red-bellied lemurs, and black-and-white ruffed lemurs by canoe. The reserve also features a crocodile lake, a small museum, and a garden of endemic plants. Although the lemurs are semi-habituated, the site remains ideal for families and wildlife enthusiasts seeking guaranteed sightings in a safe and accessible setting.
Peyrieras Nature Farm, also known as Madagascar Exotic, is a private reserve and breeding centre located in Marozevo, 75 km east of Antananarivo. Visitors can explore an impressive collection of Madagascar’s reptiles, amphibians, insects, and semi-habituated lemurs. Highlights include colourful chameleons, leaf-tailed geckos, tomato frogs, and the impressive comet moth (seasonal). Guided tours provide close-up encounters in aviary-style enclosures, making it a favourite destination for photographers
